Whenever someone asks me how to tone or strengthen their arms its hard to offer a simple answer. I will usually ask them “when was the last time you did a push up”? Those of you that have had this conversation with me know where this is going.
A proper vibration machine can make traditional exercise positions more effective while fatiguing you faster. If you haven’t done a push up in over a decade I recommend taking in some of our tips to help you get back into good habits and work your way up to a full on push up as technique and stability improve.
There is a few simple things to keep in mind to reduce vibration to your head and how to direct it to the neck, shoulders and upper back where you want to feel the stimulation. Once you try a few sessions it becomes easy to know how to utilize it to relieve tension in these areas while getting the added bonus of muscle toning and strength.

There is a lot of information out there about the effects of g force on the body. Our body is constantly subjected to gravity; it pulls down vertically on our body when we are in a standing position. It is a key factor in keeping our bones, muscles and cardiovascular system strong and healthy. A lack of exposure to gravity in this manner can lead to the deterioration of our health. This happens when we are inactive, like when we are sitting for extending periods of time as many of us do.
On a vibration platform your exposure to gravity can be increased improving your body’s health in a number of ways. The vast majority of research to date has shown evidence of more benefits when higher g-forces are used.
Unfortunately many vibration machines are not capable of producing high g-forces. Incorrect machine specs and misleading marketing have lead many consumers to believe high G’s don’t work or aren’t necessary. Some even claim vibration machines that offer high g-forces can be harmful using fear to steer the consumer towards their mass produced, low performing machines. High g-forces on a vibration machine cannot be compared the g-forces the body is subjected to in a car or an airplane where the acceleration is accumulating on the body in a singular direction.
If you have never experienced a machine capable high acceleration, you wouldn’t have experienced how your body actually reacts to it. On a pivotal platform when using lower frequencies (under approx. 15 HZ), you can feel your body shake or wobble as it moves back and forth in an effort to remain stable on the platform. When moving into higher frequencies and higher g-forces your body has to recruit more muscle fiber to keep you stable, the feeling goes from being almost choppy to tonic, or like a pulse you can feel in your muscles. Many of our clients find the higher frequencies more comfortable, less jarring. This too is where many of the big benefits associated with WBV kick in.
In this short video, we aim to demonstrate that a machine with high acceleration is nothing to be afraid of and in no way compares to being in an Indy race car. Reducing your amplitude (bringing your feet or hands closer together) can help users experience higher frequencies while controlling the intensity of the stimulation to their comfort level until ready to progress into higher g-forces. Having a machine that offers a full range of g-force is your best long term investment.

There is an ongoing challenge consumers continue to face when considering Whole Body Vibration and all the machines in the market. Claims vs Truths. How can you tell the marketing hype from the true information?
We’ve addressed this in past articles, but in the business of WBV one of the long term challenges all the companies face that show some sort of unity is how difficult it is to advertise and market this type of product. Now this may raise a few heads especially if you’re unconvinced about whole body vibration and what it can do for you or anyone else. Been there, I get it.
The issue has been that a lack of physical representation of the brands in enough of the major market centers to bring choice, broader information and competition to the local market directly. There are reasons for this and I am capable of understanding the challenges many brands would face having to exist everywhere needed, so online marketing and advertising has been the preferred choice of many of the major manufacturers of vibration machines.
Another continued challenge has been the massaged debate of vertical vibration or pivotal vibration and – which is best. As a dedicated practitioner for almost 10 years of whole body vibration use and training I have had the opportunity not only to try a large variety of machines but to scientifically test the machines to identify each styles “platform” acceleration characteristics.
Acceleration or G-force is the answer to the problem. You also require specific data and measurements that professional accelerometers can provide. In the equation we need the platforms frequency of cycle (Hz) and it’s displacement per cycle (millimeters). Once we have this data we can complete the equation and identify the platforms acceleration capacity.
The secondary debate used to manipulate market share is G-force and its relationship to the common consumers understanding of the environment in which it is experienced. In relation to WBV machines they can range from less than 1G up to 30G. Now, 30Gs sounds like a lot especially when WBV is compared to flying. They don’t compare so don’t be fooled. . WBV is pulsed acceleration vs prolonged. There is a +/- cycle creating a pulsation effect and movement is limited to millimeters vs the prolonged horizontal or vertical exposure one may experience during flight.
If a company does not provide or is unable to validate these measurements, you really can’t know for sure what you are getting in the way of performance.
Clients often call us looking into whether a machine is safe for use with a medical condition. For the most part, evidence and our own experience has shown that whole body vibration is probably one of the safest activities out there and almost anyone can do. It’s non-invasive, less impact that walking and a proper machine can provide a world of health and fitness benefits.
Overall there is a huge lack of understanding as to what is actually happening to your body on one of these machines. If people truly understood how it works, it would be in use everywhere from waiting in line at the bank to your health club and workplace.
Once in a while a client tells me that their doctor or specialist has advised they cannot use the machine but without really elaborating as to why not. In some rare cases this may be warranted but for the most part it’s often a lack of understanding or perhaps a poor impression that has ruled out a potentially viable tool for someone.
In my dream world, it would be our caregivers and health providers that introduce us the all the wonderful things it can offer our body and mind. It will be sometime until the ‘shakey machine’ stereotype fades and it’s potential healing effects are truly embraced. Until then you and the public at large are left to your own research and comparison.
If you have been afraid to pursue whole body vibration due to a bad experience or a lack of quality info you now know that there is experienced support out there. Few companies selling these machines understand let alone assess your individual needs nor how to help manage them.
If you are dealing with a specific medical concern and want to discuss your unique concerns please reach out. We will assist you in your journey and direct you to WBV professional in your area for experienced opinion where available. We’d be happy to email info or talk directly to your care provider to help support your research.
This is a message that bares repeating, especially this time of year. A little common sense can go along way when it comes to shopping for a good vibration training platform. So… when is a deal too good to be true?
Well the “Big Sales Season” is upon us! From Boxing Day right through into January, it’s full steam ahead! Even with vibration machine advertising campaigns jumping right off the screen at you. If you haven’t already done so, “Google” “vibration machine” and see for yourself. Online retailers are doing their best to sway you to buy their product over the other guys. Limited time offers and deep discounts create urgency making you worry that you’ll miss out and sometimes we rush to buy without knowing if it truly is a “good deal”. How we shop has changed with the ability to compare most products online. When you know what you’re looking for, and have spent some time researching a product, it’s easy to spot a deal because you understand the value of the product.
We caution you when price comparing, especially with those deal sites and the end price after discount.
The stated value is often inflated to lead you to believe they are giving you a huge discount. Hypervibe does not sell machines through deals sites. We already give the best performance for price in our local markets. Hypervibe manufactures high quality, reliable vibration machines…Period. What is the value add with Us? Access to experienced trainers and a variety of support tools. We want you to get the most out of your investment and real results for years to come.
We are a company dedicated to developing and manufacturing the best in the business and our latest line up delivers in every category. You simply cannot compare the performance of a Hypervibe to the machines sold on some of these online sites. Nor can you expect a machine for under $300 to give you the same results.
Wishing you health & happiness in 2016!
